Every year a well attended kite festival is held on the frozen surface of Clear Lake, Iowa. The festival is put on by Kay and Larry Day, with financial help from local businesses, civic groups and the Chamber of Commerce. The city of Clear Lake helps out in terms of traffic control and snow removal from the sidewalks along the shore of the lake. This is a good example of the kind of event that can be held with the help of community involvement.
In 2008 several of our members attended and had a great time flying on thick ice in sunny, 15 degree weather. In 2009 it was much colder and not as sunny but still a good time was had by all.
