Color The Wind Kite Ice Festival 2008 & 2009 : Every year a well attended kite festival is held on the frozen surface of Clear Lake, Iowa. The festival is put on by Kay and Larry Day, with financial help from local businesses, civic groups and the Chamber of Commerce. The city of Clear Lake helps out in terms of traffic control and snow removal from the sidewalks along the shore of the lake. This is a good example of the kind of event that can be held with the help of community involvement. In 2008 several of our members attended and had a great time flying on thick ice in sunny, 15 degree weather. In 2009 it was much colder and not as sunny but still a good time was had by all. Lincoln City, Oregon, Fall Kite Festival 2007 : Every Fall the city of Lincoln City, Oregon hosts a Fall Kite Festival at "D" River Wayside State Park on Oregon highway 101. This year the festival was made more interesting as high tide occurred in the middle of the afternoon, causing the flying area to get quite narrow for a few of the events. In addition, on Saturday the wind blew off the ocean, so some of the experienced kite fliers had a lot of fun flying while standing in the shallow waves along the shoreline. Hooper, NE Elementary School ABC Kite Day : This was an educational event which included the children making kites the week before, and then a 2 hour kite talk and fly a few days later.
